ABOUT, BIX PRODUCTS PTY LTD. written by Howard Shaw
The idea of manufacturing Bix first started when Neville Shaw (Dad) was talking to his youngest son Martin back in 1987. Neville wanted to start a business, and Martin whom had a big background in the manufacture and fitting of kitchens as a cabinetmaking business owner gave Neville the idea of manufacturing Wood Joiner Biscuits.
Martin told Neville how all the brands of wood joiners were imported from overseas, and were very expensive to purchase, with much Australian money going overseas. So with much organization from Neville manufacture of Australian Made and Owned Bix began in Beenleigh QLD in 1987.
Neville started making biscuits out of flooded gum that came from the Mount Lindsay area, near the border. By late 1991 business had picked up to such a degree, that I (Howard) came into the business. By late 1993 we found the quality of flooded gum was getting rather poor. So the search was on for an alternative timber that was suitable for Bix Wood Joiners. Neville found out that poplar was the answer. Even though poplar is a light weight hardwood timber, it is extremely tough across the grain.
So after trying some poplar, which was a complete success, we decided to pack up and move our machinery and lives to the main source of poplar in Australia, the Mid North Coast of NSW. This happened on the night of the 28th March 1994. We bought the poplar green, straight off the saw, and stripped it out with tin roofs on each stack to air dry for about four months until it reached a moisture content of 12 to 13%. Business boomed over the next several years, monthly sales figures just kept breaking old records.
Bix Products Pty Ltd is a 100% Australian Owned business, that manufactures Bix Wood Joiner Biscuits here in Australia, at our Wauchope NSW factory. We purchase and use 100% Australian Grown Timber, and Australian Manufactured cartons to package our Bix Wood Joiner Biscuits in.
Our Wood Joiners are made from the finest quality Australian timber ensuring a stable and reliable product for all biscuit joining applications. Strict quality control ensures consistent product size and thickness. The wood joiners are stamped at an angle of 45° to the timber grain providing maximum resistance to sheering, splitting or flexing.
The Wood Joiners are designed for use with any of the well known brands of commercial joiner slot machines using 100mm diameter and 4mm thick blade. The size you use depends on the size of the board or the frame that you are joining. Use the largest size biscuit wherever possible for maximum strength
